Crazy birds! I mean bird, as in singular.
Two years ago birds built a nest by our side door. After eggs were laid, they started to become very territorial to the point that they attacked us or anyone else that walked near the side of the house. Last year they returned to find a nerf ball in the spot they wanted to build a nest. That worked and kept them away. I found out this year that the birds moved to our neighbor's house last year but would not be able to return because he closed in the corners with "bird boxes." Well, he was right! They did not return to his house but here they come to the Mainiero's house again only this time they are trying to build on the back porch. This could not happen because we are outside in the backyard all of the time. So, Jacob and I set out to get rid of them. I brushed the nest down 3 times, turned on the ceiling fan, etc. None of that worked. So here we go with the air "soft" guns. There is nothing soft about them apparently and Jacob is a good aim. Now as we sit here, there is only one bird sitting on the ledge of the porch ceiling and the other is...well not flying anymore. At first Jacob seemed so proud to have taken care of the problem but not long after the event, he said, "mom, I only wanted to scare it away, not kill it." My sweet animal loving Jacob! I have tried to reassure hime that it is OK and to say a prayer for comfort. I could never tell him that it makes me sad too. I will just comfort him through the sadness.
