Merry Christmas 2009

Merry Christmas from the Mainiero Family: Victor, Melissa, Jacob (13), Zachary (12) and Ava (2)!

We hope that this finds everyone well and enjoying time with family and friends. This year has been busier than ever for our family and at times it has been more than overwhelming. But we know God is good and trust that he will continue to see us through each challenge.

Victor and I continue to work in the field of public education. Victor, being in his third year as a principal, is settling in to his position and making great progress. Working in postsecondary education in the State of Louisiana has its challenges the past year. Louisiana is facing extreme budget cuts and the two agencies that are not protected from these cuts are higher education and health care.

Recently I realized that next August Victor and I will have a preschooler, middle schooler and a high schooler. So I am sure next year’s letter will have some exciting things to report.
Jacob is still very involved in soccer, running, and golf but his recent quest has been to shoot his first deer. I keep telling him to be patient and that his deer is just waiting until he has at least 8 points to come out of the woods. He has grown up (spiritually, mentally and physically) so much this year. A few weeks ago at about 10:00 p.m. I asked him why he was still awake. Yes, I said it with the “mom voice” and the response was “Mom, I’m reading the Bible.” What more could I ask for?

Zachary is doing well and we are focused this year on making the right decision related to middle school placement. This is definitely the main focus of our prayers for him and for the educators that play a significant role in his future. The enclosed photo is definitely for Zachary! He still loves the beach and as a result, we may never be able to take a summer vacation anywhere other than the beach.

Ava – where to start? She is a blessing beyond words and continues to amaze us with what she learns and the things she likes to do. While she does like to watch some children’s shows, she prefers CMT – yes, Country Music Television. Her favorite artists: Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Trace Adkins, and Keith Urban. She is the joy in our hearts and we know God has blessed us with her for a very specific reason. With warm hearts, we thank Him for her and our boys every day.

Our parents continue to live near us and provide so much support and love to our family that it is overwhelming at times. Victor and I could not do what we do without them and the other family members and friends.

I am sure as you read this you are focused on parties, gift wrapping, baking, Christmas programs, and everything else that seems to attach itself to this time of year. The Mainiero family prays that everyone will remain focused on the reason this time of year exists and that is the miraculous birth of our savior Jesus Christ.
